Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus is a space where people can celebrate music, celebrate their sexuality, enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded people and contribute to the local communities of which we are a part. The Chorus is a registered charity with three guiding principles, our “Three S’s” – Singing, Socializing and Support.
Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus was created in January 2005 when a small group of friends who loved singing were disappointed at the lack of a non-scene space in which to socialise. They decided it was high time Brighton & Hove had its first gay male voice choir and so created a space where people can celebrate music, enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded people and contribute to the local communities of which we are part.
We are now the biggest gay men’s chorus in UK outside of London. Our musical year is comprised of three seasons, each of which culminates in sell-out shows, starting in May at the Brighton Fringe Festival, one of the biggest Fringe Festivals in the world. Then we perform at the beginning of August where our show traditionally kicks off Brighton’s Pride Week celebrations. Finally our Christmas productions, where we regularly sell out the 1500 seat Brighton Dome Concert Hall. We have been fortunate to share the stage with extraordinary performers like Zoe Lyons, Russell Watson, Sandie Shaw, Claire Sweeney, June Brown and Alan Cummings.
Our concerts have also raised many thousands of pounds for local and national charities.
Brighton GMC love to travel, be it to festivals or to sing with other choirs. Various Voices is a highlight where we can socialise with other choirs from across Europe, seeing friends we have made at the festivals in London, Dublin and Munich. We are a group that is proud to give great performances to our audiences and also love to party. Look out Bologna, the boys from Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus are here!
