Diversity Choir is celebrating 30 years as London‘s original lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans chamber choir. We usually have about 60 members and rehearse in famous churches around the City of London, singing a very diverse repertoire ranging from the middle ages to the contemporary, from Mozart to ABBA and back again.
Diversity Choir was founded in 1992, when a group of LGBT singers got together in the City of London to form a choir who wanted to sing as diverse a repertoire of music as their lungs could manage – sacred and secular, serious and light-hearted, old and new. We have regularly attended LGBT choir festivals around Europe, and have recently sung Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral. We regularly sing at Pride events, and we regularly collaborate with other choirs and orchestras at sponsored concerts, we also perform regular concerts abroad, including trips to Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, and Dublin.
We usually perform two of our own hosted concerts each year, a Summer and Winter concert. These concerts are performed in churches such as St John’s Waterloo and St James’s Piccadilly. We currently rehearse in The Holy Sepulchre church, also known as the National Musicians’ Church. Our Musical Director is Jan Rautio, a talented chamber musician and conductor who has given numerous live broadcasts on the BBC, performed his own compositions with the Rautio Trio, and is an Associated of the Royal Academy of Music.
