South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus

Led by our wonderfully talented Musical Director, Christopher Fossey, South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2023. We’re a non-auditioning community choir of around 50 members, rehearsing each week in Cardiff. We love singing everything from traditional male voice choir pieces, to show tunes and modern classics.

South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus began life in February 2008 with a group of singers, led by founding musical director Andrew Bulleyment. Since then, the choir became a recognised and respected part of the LGBT community in Cardiff and South Wales. We’ve taken part in numerous national and international festivals, as Various Voices in Dublin and Munich. We hosted the Hand in Hand LGBT Choral Festival in Cardiff in 2019, when we joined forces with Cardiff Trans Singers and Songbirds Choir.

Some say that our crowning achievement might well be becoming festival champions at Cornwall International Male Choral Festival in 2017. For some members, their favourite highlight will always be singing on stage with Lulu at St David’s Hall in Cardiff. Or the time we marched at Pride in London alongside Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. For others, it’s our annual cabaret night. SWGMC is about friendship and enjoying singing – and there’s never been a shortage of that.

We can’t wait to arrive in Bologna, and to sing with wonderful choirs from all around the world! South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus have always loved being part of a wider community of LGBT choirs from across the world, where we can have fun together and learn from each other. Wales has always had a reputation for its choral singing, and we’re looking forward to bringing our distinctly Welsh sound to Bologna to share with you all.
