Tapalanote is the LGBTQI+ choir of Brussels Gay Sports (BGS). We are a gender mixed group of around fifty singers, some of whom are just beginning to discover choral singing while others are improving their vocal skills through this common musical project.
When choosing a name for our choir, Tapalanote (you’re out of tune in French), we wanted to convey that we get together, not only to sing but also to laugh and have fun. It also underlines how there is more than just wanting to sing together that brings us together: it’s also about promoting LGBTQI+ rights and sharing a creative moment, in a friendly atmosphere.
We have a very wide repertoire, ranging from pop to variéte, world music and jazz. Our music reflects who we are: a choir that thrives on diversity, respect, and fun!
The choir is led by a professional choir conductor, Yvonne Duong. She studied music at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and Sorbonne University. She works as a music teacher and combines conducting Tapalanote with conducting Zinnechoeur, another Brussels based choir.
